Ashbourne Thursday Market new chapter
Ashbourne Community’s CIC (“AshCom”) is pleased to announce that it has agreed terms for
the transfer of the Ashbourne Thursday market on Shrovetide Walk to Rebecca Bebbington.
Rebecca is a long-standing trader on the market operating under the name of Pickled
Nugget Bakehouse selling her homemade cakes and patisseries.
AshCom sees this as a successful outcome for its work on the market over the last six years.
At the outset there was just one trader, Trevor trading as Lucky Catch, who we are pleased
to say is still with us with an ever-growing regular customer base. Over that period we have
enabled other traders to establish long-term relationships with the community and enabled
a number, particularly through the pandemic period, to establish new activities within the
market or, after a period with us, establishing themselves as retailers within the area.
Community benefit has been and is the central driving force for AshCom and the fact that
Rebecca is a locally based trader is particularly welcome as the market moves into a new
period of development.
Sue Bridgett chair of AshCom commented “It was always AshCom’s ambition that, having
secured the existence of the Thursday market, we would be able to hand it onto an
experienced and enthusiastic local trader group. We are delighted that this time has come
and will coincide with the improved amenity of Shrovetide Walk, which we initiated, to be
completed later this year as part of the Ashbourne Reborn programme.”
AshCom remains committed on other projects designed to promote the wellbeing of the
Ashbourne community and its environment and to enhance the visitor economy.
